Faith and Fury Abstract- Pack of 10 Greeting Cards

The original  ‘Faith and Fury’ is a large 60cm wide, 90cm high, 4cm deep canvas.

In 2025 it was entered in SAA's Artists of the Year 2025 competition,  receiving ‘commended’ in the Abstract category.

This print is based on the original which was painted in acrylics with knives over textured acrylic mediums on cotton canvas. Iridescent paint and gold leaf accentuate elements to embody light and ‘faith’. 

In 2023 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and unable to find the words to articulate the experience I picked up my paint and palette knives to work through my thoughts.

Partly paralysed with fear I tried to process what I had heard, ‘you have breast cancer’. I wanted to let out a guttural scream and hit out at something. My two children were not even teenagers yet. Scraping the palette knife, loaded with red and magenta acrylic paint, across the canvas felt so tactile and able to articulate the fury I didn’t have the words for. The textured vein down the painting represented the sensation of moving my hand over a rough surface; the sensation grounding me to a sense of being present, alive but hurting. Somehow, feeling too much was simultaneously mixed with the whiteness of feeling numb and empty. I was wrestling with having faith and trust in the medical professionals who had met and kept my gaze. I had to be willing to process my anger and let trust, love and light in, represented by the iridescent pinks and golden elements. In painting this work I experienced the duality of how lucky I was to feel the pain of being alive.
