Cotswold Lavender
I’m happiest when I can paint a place that I have visited and spent time at; composing paintings in my mind’s eye as I go. I sketch when I can and take many photographs, for reference for when I’m back in my studio. Nothing beats experiencing the essence of a place- the sounds, colours, textures, weather and scenery. Rather than render a photo-realistic painting I try to express how it felt to be there in that moment. I hope my paintings convey the serene atmosphere.

I visited Cotswold Lavender several times in the summer of 2025 and witnessed the maturing lavender crops and wildflower meadow. The many shades of the lavenders- purple, lilac, blue and silver danced in the breeze accompanied by buzzing and pinging of pollen collectors. I also vividly recall the heady blue, yellow and white wildflowers. I keep returning to my reference photos and I’m sure I will continue to be inspired by this special place throughout winter.

I would highly recommend visiting yourself when they reopen in June.
