Session 11 - Malvern in Bloom | Malvern Pastel Artists

What a wonderful way to spend a Friday morning! Session 11 of the Malvern Pastel Artists brought a real burst of colour to the room — and with a theme of Malvern in Bloom, it couldn't have felt more fitting.

Members arrived with beautiful cut flowers and fresh foliage, arranging them into gorgeous still life displays ready to paint. Roses, wildflowers, leafy stems — the room looked (and smelled!) absolutely lovely. Some members painted directly from the arrangement in front of them, while others worked from their own photos. The results were stunning, and every piece completely unique.

Pastels are such a brilliant medium for florals. The way you can blend soft petals or add a crisp highlight with a single stroke makes them ideal for this kind of subject. Whether you're a complete beginner or a more experienced artist, there's something really satisfying about painting flowers — they're forgiving, they're beautiful, and they never stay still for long, which keeps things interesting!
